NARRATIVE THERAPY WITH OFFENDERS IN A GROUP SETTING
The reconstruction process helps offender's make positive adjustments in their identity (Yanos, Roe, & Lysaker, 2011). Through the process of externalization and deconstruction, a self awareness begins that helps lessen the internalized stigma and focus on positive story lines that contain the offenders skills, beliefs, and values. This new awareness can reconstruct a narrative consistent with their personal goals (Walsh, 2014) and can also redefine the offenders’ relationships with themselves, their histories, and other meaningful relationships in their lives (White, 2007).
The actors in the role play are all volunteers and gave consent to participate in the role play. None of the actors have served time within the correctional system.
